My son served in Iraq and my father was a WWII veteran. I have friends who served in Vietnam. I could hear my father, now deceased, using the term Japs. He was a naval commander whose destroyer was torpedoed and sunk in the Pacific. The concept of camaraderie resonated with the Vietnam vets. My son hasn’t told me anything, but opened up recently to another family member(thank God!) and “the people he had to kill,” fits in there. Thank you for sharing your story.
