Poetry Is Alive And well.
Here are a few publications for aspiring poets.
At a recent editorial meeting of the awesome NinjaWriters, the subject of poetry came up. Several people stated they were not poets, how much they admired them, but alas, there wasn’t a lot of poetry on Medium.
True. But it is hardly non-existent.
I read poetry, so I knew it was there. I went on a poetry-finding mission and discovered that there are several private publications, but also a few where poets can submit their work.
Here’s a short list, though not an exhaustive one.
P.S. I Love You
Accepts poetry on “Poetry Sundays.” So the guidelines are: 1/ only submit on Sundays and, 2/ make sure it’s about love. Please read for more detail.
Dead Poets Live
As you might have guessed by the name, this publication posts the classics of great poets who have passed from this life. Walt Whitman, Raina Maria Rilke, Maya Angelou, and now sadly Mary Oliver are featured.
The submission guidelines are a bit buried, but you can find them here.
Poetry in Form
This publication accepts poetry every month. A prompt is sent out at the end of each month, and the poet has five to seven days to respond.
Poetry Under Cover
Poetry Under Cover was started to fill the space Poetry After Dark Left when the publication closed. Editors are looking for, “your fantasies, dreams and innermost secret thoughts.” Your poem can take whatever form you wish.
Sounds fun!
Resistance Poetry
Resistance Poetry, or RP, is looking for verse as “commentary,” a poetic response. It can be a response to any event going on in the world today. Humor is also strongly encouraged.
If you’re a poet, this will give you a start.
And please tell them that Marilyn sent you.
