Quotes for twentysomethings to let you know we’re all in this together.
I remember my 20's, vaguely. It was a long time ago. I was clueless then and now that I’m in my 60's, I have to admit that I still question myself. There will never be a time in my life that I have all the answers or don’t experience a certain amount of fear of the unknown.
And it’s the same for everyone.
It’s just that as I got older, I arrived at an “ah-ha” place and began to understand that I was never going to be perfect, all I could do was my best. And that is perfect. Mistakes are okay as long as you learn from them. Our best is not a static thing, it changes from day-to-day and sometimes hour-to-hour. (The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz)
Times have changed, though and more is expected of 20-somethings. It’s okay, really. One thing all 20-somethings have had in common since the beginning of time is that it’s a transition period. You enter the adult world, take on the responsibility of supporting yourself and win the independence you’ve been screaming for, for years. And it scares the crap out of you.
Freedom is not easy.
It’s a transition, one of the biggest ones you’ll go through, and transitions are changes and changes are hard. Period.
When I’m stressed or afraid, I remind myself to do one thing: breathe. We are exactly who we should be and where we should be at all times. That’s a universal law. And it doesn’t change.
To illustrate my point, here are a few quotes from those who have been there and as you’ll see, they are or were all successful, so sit down and listen up.
“When I was in my 20's, I was a lost soul. Your 20's are about finding your soul.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

And finally, a nursery rhyme just for you twentysomethings.
“No matter how the movies make it look–being brave is not sexy.
Most people won’t understand you. They’ll just stare at you with disgusted perplexy.
You’ll never know if you can do it if you keep trying to think it perfectly through.
Sometimes you have to put your thinker to rest, pack your bags, and just do.”
~ Twentysomething Nursery Rhyme Part Two
So stay with it.
I tell myself that every morning. There’s a lot ahead and it’s going to get better, and worse, and then better again. Welcome to life!
